For Those In Peril // Hold Back The Night
LP / Digital (HEVMAC058)

We’re proud to present our latest LP release: For Those In Peril // Hold Back The Night by Namazu.

Namazu are a Naarm-based ambient duo comprised of Brett O’Riley (YLVA, Margins, Blacklevel Embassy, Ricaine) and Gerard Mason (Goodbye Enemy Airship).

A recurring theme in their work is the use of unique locations to influence and inform composition – using the spaces as instruments themselves.

For Those In Peril // Hold Back The Night is an expansive, location-based work, utilising three vastly different locations and two instruments unique to the city: the sonically unique Norla Dome, the immense Grand Organ in the Melbourne Town Hall and the Federation Bells – an installation in Birrarung Marr comprising of 39 upturned bells. Geographically, the locations are situated along the Yarra River, travelling inland from the south.

This gorgeous new work takes Namazu’s practice to a new level. The iconic instrumentation lends gravitas to the slow-burning intensity of the music, the meandering pace and ebbing beauty of the music reflect the upstream journey, while the sinister undercurrent of the dissonant organ remind us of the tremendous loss coded in this terrain.
